Comments : First Squalor show in over a year, and also my first show at the Foufs in almost a year and a half. Glad they're back ! The new bass player really fits in the sound of the band. A pretty usual concert, no big surprises, it is almost if last time they played was last week or so. Good and loud as usual.
Comments : Headliner of the evening, my friend Stephen played tonight his very first solo show for his 40th birthday. Accompaining himself on the guitar, Stephen played 4 of his own songs (Stephen, can you give me the name of the songs you played?), very sincere and touching. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Comments : Well, it was more a Thisquietarmy show tonight actually, as Eric was playing the guitar instead of keyboards. But it was not quite Thisquietarmy either as Eric did not play any of his songs and improvised a couple of tracks instead... I really enjoyed the second piece, despite the very annoying group of three girls who started to be very noisy sorting their spare change during the concert.
Comments : First show of the evening for this celebration of my friend Stephen's 40th birthday at Le Cagibi. I think this was also Françoise's first show ever as Stochastique. I am definitely more familiar with her visual work (the animated short film "Sous Le Microscope") and did not really know what to expect. A very nice start of the evening, with lots of interaction from the audience (who was invited to speak in a microphone) while Françoise was manipulating these frequencies to make sounds/music/drones...
Comments : A really great show on a very cold day here in Montreal (we had something like -20°C today). The band seemed really happy to be here and gave a much better concert than last time I saw them at ATP back a few months ago.
Comments : I had no clue who the opening act from Mercury Rev was before tonight. Actually not until my friend Amaan told me that they were indeed former members of Luna : Dean Warenham and Britta Phillips. A nice show with a great cover of Serge Gainsbourg's Bonnie & Clyde at the end.
Comments : I remember Raw Madonna from last year's UnPop festival at the Zoobizarre; the singer was playing the harp in speedos wearing rabbit ears then... well tonight he played the trumpet wearing reindeer antlers. Another pretty good performance, very twisted as expected; I really like them actually. Very nice people also. I wish they would perform more than once a year.
Comments : Tonight was the first time I went to see a concert in a hospital (still used as a hospital to be more accurate) and the first time I saw a band of 28 musicians playing together on stage as well. A nice jazz concert held in a quite odd venue, with a pretty interesting line-up featuring ex-members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hangedup... Sam Shalabi was also supposed to be there but wasn't.

Comments : Another very good show by Alexandre St-Onge, who is definitely one of my favourite avant-garde artists in Montreal. A really good musical piece accompained by a great set up and performance.
Comments : A nice and analogic show to start the evening, growing in intensity towards the end. It is definitely great to see that a musican cares of bringing a real organ on stage to play, and analogic equipment really make the difference.

Comments : Tonight was the third time I saw Calexico and I found the show a bit disappointing compared to the last time (Quebec City in 2005). I quite like the new album Carried To Dust, and the band members are still pretty good musicians but the recent live performances sound weaker to me, like something was missing... humm...

Comments : A quite nice and intimate show with really great moments, although it took me a couple of songs to really get into it. Surprisingly, The Sea & Cake seem to attract a much smaller audience than Tortoise, but this was exactly the kind of show I needed after last night's Nine Inch Nails.
Comments : I used to be a big NIN fan, but I kind of lost interest in the band after the release of With Teeth in 2005. Tonight's performance was visually amazing with an great light show and great energy on stage, but the recent tracks did not convince me musically at all. Still a pretty nice concert and a good evening.
Comments : Every time I have seen Nine Inch Nails in concert, they brought pretty amazing opening acts (Pig in 1994, Atari Teenage Riot in 1999,...). Having heared a lot of good things about Boris, they were definitely a band I wanted to see. Despite the size of the venue and the rather "uninterested" audience, Boris gave a pretty good show tonight and I look forward to see them again in a more comfortable venue soon.
Comments : A very good show, as expected (tonight being my 17th Sisters Of Mercy show), but no big surprise; although it is pretty nice to hear Marian again. This tour is definitely starting way much better than the previous one (good sound, less smoke...).The original setlist included Romeo Down and Flood II but the main set stopped after First & Last & Always. You can also read my full review of the show (longer, but in French) coming up shortly here : http://thesistersofmercy.free.fr/
Comments : The Tiger Lillies are back in Montreal after last year's show cancelled due to a snow storm. Another really great show of black humor and sick twisted, including great hit songs at the end such as Kick A Baby or Hamster. And most of all a snow storm to come back home after the show (yes, really, and today is October 28th).
Comments : A nice concert, despite a certain lack of intensity at the beginning. In the second part, the show improved a lot, although not the best Pink Dots concert I have seen. A great ending with two encores including Fifteen Flies In The Marmelade.

Comments : Announced as the last Thisquietarmy concert of this year and also the release party of his new album "Blackhaunter", tonight's show was very nice indeed. Including new songs, some yet to be released. See you again next year Eric.
Comments : Another improvised live soundtrack to Karl Lemieux's 16mm films manipulations. A nice line up for a nice performance with really great moments, although I felt a loss of intensity towards the end (maybe 55 minutes was a bit too long ?), but still very interesting.
Comments : New side-project from Eric (Thisquietarmy) without any guitar involved. I think tonight was his second show ever with this set up (please Eric, I know you read this blog, so correct me if I'm wrong). The result was definitely different from his usual project as expected, but still reminiscent of some ambiances and atmospheres you can find in Thisquietarmy. A pretty nice, intimate and short set (perfect timing actually).
