DAF - Gothic Festival - July 26th 2009

Band : DAF
Venue : Gothic Festival
City (country) : Waregem (Belgium)
Date : July 26th 2009
Grade : 2/5

Setlist :
Verschwende Deine Jugend
Ich und die Wirklichkeit
Verlier nicht den Kopf
Der Mussolini
Ich will
Muskel
Rote Lippen
Osten währt am längsten
Mein Herz macht Bum
Liebeszimmer (Opium Mix)
Sato-Sato
Alle gegen Alle
Nachtarbeit
Moschino, Heckler & Koch
Die Lüge (Wahrheitslied)
Als wär's das letzte Mal
Kebabträume
Der Räuber und der Prinz

Comments : I had missed most of DAF's concert 5 years ago in a Lyon festival due to poor scheduling. (FM Einheit was playing at the same time.) I wasn't really impressed by the little bit I had seen back then. Sadly, tonight's concert solidified my impressions. Nothing bad per se, some good moments, but a bit boring overall.

The Klinik - Gothic Festival - July 26th 2009

Band : The Klinik
Venue : Gothic Festival
City (country) : Waregem (Belgium)
Date : July 26th 2009
Grade : 4/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : Undoubtedly one of the bands I wanted to see for a very long time. A pretty good performance, except for the technical difficulties with the live video and the fact that Mark Verhagen does not appear on stage any more (the music was on tape, just like in Dive's concerts).

Spiritual Front - Gothic Festival - July 26th 2009

Band : Spiritual Front
Venue : Gothic Festival
City (country) : Waregem (Belgium)
Date : July 26th 2009
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
Cruisin
Shining Circle
Bastard Angel
Walk The Deadline
Jesus Died In Las Vegas
Loved Or Defeated
Song For The Old Man
Cold Love In A Cold Coffin
Slave

Comments : A nice concert, although I did not really get the connection between the projection of Pasolini's Mama Roma and a singer who was trying too hard to act like Johnny Cash on stage.

Monolith - Gothic Festival - July 26th 2009

Band : Monolith
Venue : Gothic Festival
City (country) : Waregem (Belgium)
Date : July 26th 2009
Grade : 2/5

Setlist :

Comments : I used to really like this artist. I saw him in Strasbourg in 2000 and have an album from that era called "Tribal Globe". Tastes sure change! Today's performance did not really impress or even interest me. Oh, well...

Vomito Negro - Gothic Festival - July 25th 2009

Band : Vomito Negro
Venue : Gothic Festival
City (country) : Waregem (Belgium)
Date : July 25th 2009
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : Die Form cancelled their show at the last minute, something they seem to do quite often these days. Luckily for us, they were replaced by Vomito Negro, a band I never thought I would get to see live. A pretty nice show, cold and hermetic, as expected.

KMFDM - Gothic Festival - July 25th 2009

Band : KMFDM
Venue : Gothic Festival
City (country) : Waregem (Belgium)
Date : July 25th 2009
Grade : 3/5

Bait & Switch
Tohuvabohu
Son Of A Gun
Hau Ruck
Looking For Strange
Potz Blitz !
Attak
Saft Und Kraft
Megalomaniac
A Drug Against War
WWIII
Godlike

Comments : Last time I saw KMFDM was 14 years ago and Sasha Konietzko is the only member left from that era. The band played mostly new songs (or at least from the last 14 years). I was actually happy to see them again, although I found the show weaker than last time.

Raymonde Howard - Château De Goutelas - July 18th 2009

Band : Raymonde Howard
Venue : Château De Goutelas
City (country) : Marcoux (France)
Date : July 18th 2009
Grade : 4/5

Comments : Tonight's concert took place in quite an unusual venue: a 16th century castle. Another very nice and intimate set by Raymonde Howard. Performing solo this time, she played mostly new songs, accompanied only by her drum machine.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Traffic Festival - July 9th 2009

Band : Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Venue : Traffic Festival
City (country) : Torino (Italy)
Date : July 9th 2009
Grade : 5/5

Setlist :
Papa Won't Leave You Henry
Dig, Lazarus, Dig !!!

The Ship Song
Henry Lee
Tupleo
We Call Upon The Author
The Mercy Seat
Love Letter
The Weeping Song
There She Goes, My Beautiful World
Stagger Lee

Moonland
Get Ready For Love
Lucy

Comments : Nick's mustache is gone and so is Mick Harvey. I have to confess I missed Mick's personality and stage presence more than his actual musician skills. There were no big surprises in the setlist, except maybe for "Lucy". Headlining a free open air festival, the band played a much longer set than those of last year's North American shows. A great show as expected.

Mono - Bad Bonn - July 8th 2009

Band : Mono
Venue : Bad Bonn
City (country) : Düdingen (Switzerland)
Date : July 8th 2009
Grade : 4/5

Comments : Mono impressed me much more this time around than the first time I saw them in Montreal opening for High On Fire. A very nice concert in a great venue in the middle of the countryside.

Tamtrum - Le Double Six - July 4th 2009

Band : Tamtrum
Venue : Le Double Six
City (country) : Lyon (France)
Date : July 4th 2009
Grade : 2/5

Setlist :

Comments : Tonight was actually the 3rd time I saw Tamtrum. As usual the band delivered a very energetic show despite the stifling heat in the venue. Good for what it is, but still not my kind of stuff.

Arsch Dolls - Le Double Six - July 4th 2009

Band : Arsch Dolls
Venue : Le Double Six
City (country) : Lyon (France)
Date : July 4th 2009
Grade : 2/5

Setlist :

Comments : Definitely not my musical cup of tea (or should I say blood in this case), but a great effort with make-up and stage decor, reminiscent of Lucio Fulci and Tobe Hopper movies.

Secret Chiefs 3 - Grrrnd Zero - July 3rd 2009

Band : Secret Chiefs 3
Venue : Grrrnd Zero Vaise
City (country) : Lyon (France)
Date : July 3rd 2009
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : I really did not know what to expect from this show, but it was definitely one I did not want to miss. The band played 3 sets, with a 5-10 minute break between each one. Each had a different set-up, different atmosphere and even costumes! The first one was truly amazing and featured a fantastic cover of the theme to John Carpenter's Halloween. The two others were a bit less interesting but still good, despite the usual intolerable heat in the venue.
