Dead Fawn - LFH - April 24th 2010

Band : Dead Fawn
Venue : LFH
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 24th 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :

Comments : I had no clue what to expect from this band. I could only find very little information and no sound clip anywhere. They were pretty good actually, a nice and surprising organ sound accompained by cool projections. A trippy set to finish a nice evening.

Date : April 24th 2010

Comments : Aun played as a duo this time (I actually think it was the first time) and I really enjoyed the set, more on the ambient side and therefore more subtle. A good one.

Comments : A short, dark and ambient set to start the evening. A nice combination of acoustic instruments and cymbals with electronic pedals. Very enjoyable.

LIM - Le Cagibi - April 21st 2010

Band : LIM
Venue : Le Cagibi
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 21st 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : For their debut concert as LIM, the duo built their own dream machine. A cool way to take us away from the cosy atmosphere of Le Cagibi to their dark universe. The enterprise was quite successful, although maybe a bit too short a performance to fully let yourself go. A very nice first shot.

RDC - Le Cagibi - April 21st 2010

Band : RDC
Venue : Le Cagibi
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 21st 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : Another nice show by Peter, slightly longer than last time, reaching the 15 minutes mark. Harsh and intense as expected and a pretty nice way to start the evening. Too bad the venue's speaker system was acting up.

Red Sparowes - Sala Rossa - April 16th 2010

Band : Red Sparowes
Venue : Sala Rossa
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 16th 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : Despite the heavy rain, I still found the motivation to go to the Sala, as I had really enjoyed the Red Sparrows show a few years ago at the Eurockéennes festival. One of the two bands who were supposed to open did not make it across the Canadian border, but somehow the show still started later than expected (it was as if both opening bands had played). I found Red Sparrows much less impressive than last time. There seems to have been quite a few changes in the line up since. Still it was a good show. There was no encore, so a longer set with an earlier start would have been nice.

A Compass Of The Light

Comments : I have to admit I was more familiar with Baby Dee's collaborative work than her own before tonight. This, along with my friend's very passionate views of her, was the main reason I checked out the gig. I am glad I did. A really nice and intimate show by a fantastic virtuose musician.

Comments : I absolutely love that venue. The old coal museum in St Etienne hosts a couple of festivals every year and it is always a pleasure to go there. As a big fan of Bästard, I was pretty happy to finally see their new project Zëro. Some really great moments towards the middle of the show although I was not entirely convinced and felt that the concert was maybe a bit too long.
