Raymonde Howard - Casa Del Popolo - October 25th 2010

Band : Raymonde Howard
Venue : Casa Del Popolo
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 25th 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : Very first North-American show for my friend Laetitia, with her drummer Fabrice who is now a permanent member of the band. Nice to see them in a different environment, although the Casa sounded very "Stéphanoise" tonight. Lots of new songs since last time I saw her/them, mostly from the second album "For All The Bruises Black Eyes And Peas".

Chat Ours - Casa Del Popolo - October 25th 2010

Band : Chat Ours
Venue : Casa Del Popolo
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 25th 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : I did not know much about Chat Ours before tonight, except that one of the members (David) also plays in La Seconda Volta. The duo played an electro kitsch set, dedicating one song to Claude François and finishing their set with a cover of Lio's Banana Split. Not to be taken seriously, but a very fresh start to the evening.

Black Heart Procession - Cabaret Du Mile End - October 23rd 2010

Band : Black Heart Procession
Venue : Cabaret Du Mile End
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 23rd 2010
Grade : 4/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : I had missed the Black Heart Procession last year in France due to highway closures because of heavy snow. Tonight, the band played a very intimate set, as a duo. As they were opening up for the Books, they had to keep their set short (45 minutes). Too short for my taste, but the result was really good, probably my favorite BHP show up to now.

Blonde Redhead - Metropolis - October 16th 2010

Band : Blonde Redhead
Venue : Metropolis
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 16th 2010
Grade : 2/5

Setlist :
Black Guitar
Here Sometimes
Dr. Strangeluv
SW
Love Or Prison
My Plants Are Dead
Oslo
Falling Man
23
Spring And By Summer Fall
Penny Sparkle
Not Getting There
Melody Of Certain Three
Equus

Comments : Definitely the least interesting Blonde Redhead show I have ever seen. What I heard tonight does not entice me to ever listen to the new album. The old tracks still kind of saved the show for me, but a rather disappointing evening in a venue far too big for them.

The Walkmen - Cabaret Juste Pour Rire - October 8th 2010

Band : The Walkmen
Venue : Cabaret Juste Pour Rire
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 8th 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : Comments : After missing their show at Osheaga in August I was really happy to see them back in Montreal. A nice show like the last time, but without any bra incidents. It seemed that the audience has changed a bit and I will certainly not complain about this. The band did not seem to have a written setlist on stage and the performance looked very spontaneous.

Atari Teenage Riot - Foufounes Électriques - October 2nd 2010

Band : Atari Teenage Riot
Venue : Foufounes Électriques (Pop Montreal)
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 2nd 2010
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
Waves Of Disaster
Activate!
Into The Death
No Remorse (I Wanna Die)
Destroy 2000 Years Of Culture
Sick To Death

Atari Teenage Riot

Get Up While You Can
Too Dead For Me
U.S. Fade Out

Comments : Another day, another reunion. A nice and very energetic show as expected, although everything seems tame after last night's Swans show. I missed Hanin Helias' presence on stage a lot. Still, it was nice to see Nic Endo more up front and KidTronik does a pretty good job replacing Carl Crack.

Swans - Le National - October 1st 2010

Band : Swans
Venue : Le National (Pop Montreal)
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 1st 2010
Grade : 5/5

Setlist :
No Words/No Thoughts
Your Property
Sex, God, Sex
Jim
I Crawled
My Birth
Beautiful Child
Eden Prison
Little Mouth

Comments : I have never been so happy to be wrong about a show. I must confess I was quite skeptical about the Swans reunion, even after hearing the new album. The 1997 show I saw in Lyon for the Swans Are Dead tour was one of my highlights of the 1990s and I had extremely high expectations for tonight. I managed to see the soundcheck in the afternoon and this easily dissipated most of my doubts. If I have to define tonight's performance in one word it will be "huge". Definitely the show of the year or should I say the show of the decade ? The Swans are not dead indeed...

Baby Dee - Le National - October 1st 2010

Band : Baby Dee
Venue : Le National (Pop Montreal)
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : October 1st 2010
Grade : 4/5

Setlist :
n/a

Comments : When the initial line-up for Pop Montreal was announced, Swans and Baby Dee were the only two shows that stood out for me. I was really happy to see that they were sharing the same bill. The band was the same as the April show at Sala Rossa but Baby Dee played the harp instead of the piano, showing again her virtuosity. A nice show in a great atmosphere to start the evening.
