Jonathan Parant & Aurélie Brunelle - Sala Rossa - April 30th 2012

Band : Jonathan Parant & Aurélie Brunelle

Venue : Sala Rossa
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 30th 2012
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
La Mort N'est Pas Une Raison Pour Cesser De Se Fréquenter

Comments : I really enjoy Jonathan’s solo albums and I had never seen him performing alone, so this was definitely something I did not want to miss. Tonight’s piece entitled "La Mort N'est Pas Une Raison Pour Cesser De Se Fréquenter" was actually a collaboration with Aurélie Brunelle, under the alias Clown Tragique. It was indeed more performance art (almost a theatre play) and, apart from the vocals, most of the music was pre-recorded. Well, it was pretty fucked up, really out there, and I enjoyed it a lot.

Alexandre St-Onge - Sala Rossa - April 30th 2012

Band : Alexandre St-Onge
Venue : Sala Rossa
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 30th 2012
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :
Aimer La Concrescence

Comments : Tonight, Alexandre performed one long piece called "Aimer La Concrescence". His show are almost always halfway between a live concert and performance art. I really like to see him in concert as it is always a nice and new experience (I have never seen the same piece performed twice). A great one to start the evening, even though I personally find 10pm a bit late for a Monday evening.

Acid Mothers Temple - Il Motore - April 27th 2012

Band : Acid Mothers Temple
Venue : Il Motore
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 27th 2012
Grade : 5/5

Setlist :
Chinese Flying Saucer
Ritual Space Jam
Speed Guru
Pink Lady Lemonade
Cometary Orbital Drive
La Novia

Comments : Acid Mothers Temple are back in Montreal for their yearly visit, but this time the tour is called "Last Tour In US & Canada 2012". Let us hope this applies only to 2012 or perhaps the last tour as AMT & The Melting Paradiso UFO. I think tonight was the first time I saw them as a 5 piece band, featuring Tabata Mitsuru on guitar. The show was a slightly different from the previous tours I have seen. The second track played tonight was very funkadelic, the perfect soundtrack to a blackspoitation/sexploitation movie. The band played a shorter version of Pink Lady Lemonade in 2 distinct parts. A great show as usual and as expected, hopefully not the last one. On a practical note, the show was over shortly after midnight so we managed to make it to the blue line to get back home. Let's hope Il Motore sticks to this kind of schedule in the future.

Low - Église St-Jean Baptiste - April 20th 2012

Band : Low
Venue : Église St-Jean Baptiste
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : April 20th 2012
Grade : 4/5

Setlist :
(That's How You Sing) Amazing Grace
Dragonfly
Save My Soul
Words
Witches
Especially Me
Laser Beam
Nothing But Heart

Comments : The headlining act Death Cab For Cutie is definitely not my cup of tea. Yet despite the high price of tickets, there was no way I was going to miss Low. We managed to get front row seats, but at the extreme right of the stage. The view of the stage was pretty bad (we could not see Mimi at all), but the chatter from the audience was lessened (although I have to say overall people were respectful) and so was most of the natural reverb of the venue. The band played a very nice 40 minutes set, starting with Amazing Grace (good idea for a show in a church) and including Especially Me, my favourite track off the new album. I was disappointed not to have Murderer though. Obviously, we did not stick around for the main act and got home around 9:30. Now, can we get a regular headline show of Low in Montreal ?
