Comments : After missing their performance at Musée d'Art Contemporain last month, I was relieved to see they were performing at Mutek, and for free to boot. The only drawback was the fact it was a late show (doors scheduled at 10:30pm on a weekday, according to the program). It was a good show as expected, and very different from the last time I saw them. The second part of the show was absolutely incredible! One could picture oneself drifting away along with a storm of vintage kitsch electronics, seated comfortably on a Lazy Boy chair, or maybe it was getting too late already and I was already asleep when all this happened ?

Biosphere & Lustmord - Monument National - May 30th 2012

Band : Biosphere & Lustmord Present Trinity
Venue : Monument National - Salle Ludger-Duvernay (Mutek)
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : May 30th 2012
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :

Comments : I did not really know what to expect of this collaboration. Seeing as Lustmord's live concerts are quite rare and that this is probably the closest I will ever get to seeing SPK, it was not to be missed. The set started as a dark ambient masterpiece, but I was a bit less convinced when the beat (or maybe I should call it pulsations?) started in the middle. Gladly, everything came back to "normal" quite quickly. It was overall a nice experience, although less "evil" than what I was expecting (perhaps due to the collaboration with Biosphere?) I was surprised by the low attendance and by the fact that people chose to sit more towards the middle of the room than in the front.

Alva Noto - Musée D'art Contemporain - May 4th 2012

Band : Alva Noto
Venue : Musée D'art Contemporain - Salle Beverly Webster Rolph (Elektra)
Town (country) : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Date : May 4th 2012
Grade : 3/5

Setlist :

Comments : Waiting to get into the venue tonight was really annoying and extremely disorganised. The room capacity was exceeded, so the organisers had giant screens installed at the bar for those who would not make it inside. Who would want to do that, and why did they sell more tickets than what the room allows? They made us wait in line in one area and changed their mind 10 minutes after the time doors were supposed to open. Needless to say, this made for a lot of anxious and very ticked concert goers. Gladly, we still managed to secure our usual front row center spots in the room. The show itself was pretty good, although less minimal than what I expected. The video projections were absolutely amazing: images were projected onto a full wall extended with mirrors on both sides. A very nice experience.
