Gambletron - Musée McCord - July 25th 2012

Comments : You know I am always complaining about shows starting late, so a 5-7 event was something I had no excuse to miss. Victoria street on the side of the Museum had been converted into a synthetic purple forest for the whole summer, which made the place quite special. The beginning of the show was absolutely amazing : Lisa played the saw and the bow on a bicycle wheel which created an eerie atmosphere. The rest of the set was more beat-oriented and much less my usual fare but it was still an enjoyable event in an unusual environment.

The Psychic Paramount - Casa Del Popolo - July 9th 2012

Band : The Psychic Paramount

Date : July 9th 2012
Grade : 4/5

Comments : There are some bands you have to go see everytime they play in town. Psychic Paramount is one of them, even on a Monday night. Once again, there was a time gap between what was printed on the ticket, the times posted on the venue doors and what actually happened in the room. It was about 10:45 when Psychic Paramount got on stage. The audience members who came for the opening act had mostly disappeared, replaced by a new crowd. Another side effect of the time travel ? Thankfully, the band made us forget all of these tribulations with their set and gave us a great show. This time they were able to use their own lights and smoke machines and it worked really well. See you next time !

Shalabi Effect - Casa Del Popolo - July 1st 2012

Comments : Shalabi Effect shows have become extremely rare, so tonight's show was definitely not to be missed. Tonight was the release party for their 5th album, released this time on a Middle-eastern label instead of Montreal-based Alien8 Recordings. Just like last year, Shalabi Effect’s members were joined on stage by a guest: John Heward on drums. Tonight's improvised performance was almost twice as long as last year’s and sounded much less free but more Middle-eastern, so no complaints from me! The part with Will playing the tablas was really trippy and absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, some quiet parts were somewhat drowned out by the DJ playing next door...
